Attorney Derek Reed Makes Appearance on Fox Business Network

Ehrlich, Petriello, Gudin & Plaza's partner, Derek Reed, appeared as a legal analyst on the Fox Business Network's The Willis Report, a nightly program hosted by Gerri Willis that focuses on pressing business, political and cultural issues affecting consumers, investors, and taxpayers. Mr. Reed debated seasoned Fox News legal analyst, Lis Wiehl, as to whether Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg should be granted a pardon from the Governor of Massachusetts for numerous assault crimes he committed as a teenager.

Attorney Reed, whose practice focuses on civil litigation, vehemently argued against the pardon, noting the social inequity of granting Wahlberg a pardon when most young people who make mistakes will never have the money, power or influence to wipe away their criminal past.

Ms. Wiehl argued that Wahlberg believes his request would recognize that he has significantly changed as a person since committing those crimes, arguing that it can serve as an example for young people to turn their life around. Mr. Reed disagreed with this premise, noting that Wahlberg doesn't need a pardon to work with kids. Mr. Reed also noted that the underlying reason for Wahlberg's request was to acquire a concessionaire's license for his burgeoning restaurant chain, which should not be considered a "compelling need" pursuant to the Massachusetts Executive Clemency Guidelines.
